Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th October 2022

Why did Rehoboam abandon the word of the Lord and what were the consequences (vs.1‐5, 9)? To abandon the word of God for whatever reason is an invitation to disaster because it is a sin. For three years Rehoboam followed the law of God which brought prosperity to him and the people (11:17). But at the peak of his success, he abandoned the law of God and the result was disastrous. His success became a curse.

Similarly, our success can become the enemy of our faith and trust in God if not handled in the light of God’s word. God wants us to depend on Him, not on our strength, whether physically, financially, or intellectually. When everything is going well and we are succeeding in everything we do, it is easy to become proud and feel self‐sufficient or be tempted to think that it is because we are smart, forgetting that God is behind it all. What do vs.6‐8 teach us about God (cf. 7:14)?

Read vs.9‐10. How do we behave like Rehoboam today? V.14 is the summary of Rehoboam’s life and the reason for his eventual downfall. God hates half‐hearted commitment (Revelation 3:15‐16).
