SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 9 AUGUST 2023 DEVOTIONAL

Read and Meditate on Today’s Daily Guide Devotional for 9th August 2023. May the Lord bless you as you study!

Today’s Topic: Dangers of Bad Leadership

Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, fill me with the power of the Holy Ghost as I study your word.

    Scripture: 2 Kings 14:17-29

    Question(s) for Reflection
    • Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
    • Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 9th August 2023 Outline:

King Amaziah was also assassinated like his father through conspiracies (v19). His son, Azariah, also known as Uzziah, succeeded him as king of Judah at an early age of sixteen. He did right before God during the early part of his long reign (2 Chronicles 26:3-4).

Like his father and grandfather, God blessed them for their faithfulness towards Him and as long as they sought the Lord, they had success. But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride and unfaithfulness to God led to his downfall (2 Chronicles 26:16-21). Let us pray for our leaders so that they do not fall to the lure of glory, gold or immorality.

Meanwhile, in Israel, Jeroboam II, like his father, Jehoash, followed the sins of Jeroboam I. Observe how surprisingly God allowed him to reign for 41 years despite his evil ways (v.23). God shows mercy to Israel as He sees their long years of oppression and He uses Jeroboam to deliver them (vs.6-27), like He did through Joash. Let’s not forget that the Lord can use anyone to accomplish His purpose.

According to God’s word (2 Kings 10:30), the dynasty of Jehu continued until the fourth generation with Zechariah succeeding his father Jeroboam II.

    Practice/Word Application
What Next? Corrupt leaders abound at different levels of government in our countries. What can you do about it? See 1 Timothy 2:1-2. Do that right now.
