Scripture Union Daily Guide 12th March 2023 | The Authority of Jesus

OUTLINE FOR DAILY GUIDE 13 MARCH 2023 DEVOTIONAL:

Observe the seven actions of this man in vs.1-2. Think about each of them and how God has done same to build your life this far. Observe also the three reciprocating deeds of the farmers in v.3. The parable highlights the nature and characteristics of God, of Jesus and of men.

a) The generosity of God: The owner equipped the vineyard with everything that was needed to bring a good yield. Similarly, God has given us all that we need to lead a godly life that bears fruit.

b) The trust of God:The owner went away trusting the tenants to run the vineyard themselves profitably and in a similar manner, God has given us the freedom to run our lives as we choose but in a manner that pleases Him.

c) The patience of God: The Owner, before taking the vineyard away from the tenants, gave them several opportunities to change their ways but they refused. What about us? Are we abusing the patience of God?

d) The ultimate justice of God: Men might take advantage of the patience of God, but at the end comes judgment and justice.

The real targets of the parable knew themselves. It is only a pity that instead of repenting of their actions, “they looked for a way to arrest him” (v.12).

PRAYER FOCUS

SLAVES TO RIGHTEOUSNESS
Just as you need to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to everything wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness. – Romans 6: 19

THANK GOD FOR:
► The freedom from sin we got at re-birth where old things passed away and all things become new.
► The new heart and the new Spirit that we received.

PRAY FOR:
► Grace to keep standing firm, in our faith and not going back to the yoke of slavery.
► Teachable spirit that will help us grow into spiritual maturity.
► The attitude of Christ that made Him not regard equality with God a thing to grasp.

PRAY AGAINST:
► The habit of committing sin or doing things that will not glorify the name of the God we are serving.
► Every foolish, disobedient, deception, envy, hatred that will want to enslave us, thereby not letting us enjoy the grace of God upon our lives.
