OUTLINE FOR DAILY GUIDE 16 MARCH 2023 DEVOTIONAL:

Jesus Christ commends this learned man for his excellent summary of the Law. There are two parts to it. First is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. This means total commitment in our devotion to Him with absolutely no area of our life left out! We live in an age where so many things call for our attention and take away our focus and love from God. For example, compare the time you spend meditating on God’s word with that spent on social media?

Notice the second half of the command (v.31). To love God means to show mercy to the poor and needy and those with whom we come in contact. Is there someone to whom God is calling you to be a neighbour today?
Notice the conclusion of Jesus about the teacher who gave the brilliant answer (v.34). The right answer did not qualify him for the kingdom of God. He was only on the way. Knowing the right answer is one thing, doing it is another.

The simple fact is that no human being can succeed in keeping the Law in his own strength. We must depend on the forgiveness and the salvation which can be found only in Jesus Christ.

Practice/Word Application
For Meditation: Find the song,
“Rock of Ages” and meditate on it, especially the words:
Not the labours of my hands can fulfil Thy law’s demands…
Simply to Thy cross I cling… Wash me, Saviour, or I die.
Make that your earnest prayer for today.
