It’s easy to go through life being defined by how we were raised, what we saw modeled growing up, what people have said about us, or mistakes we’ve made. People tell us that we’re not good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, not talented enough. We end up wearing labels such as “Average”, “Lacking”, “Unattractive”, “Insecure”, or “Dysfunctional”. This distorted image is keeping us from who God created us to be. How you see yourself will determine how high you will go. It’s possible to live your whole life and never recognize who you really are.
God says, “Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5). Before you showed up on Planet Earth, God already decided who you would be and laid out a purpose for your life. You came through your mother, but you came from Almighty God. Your mother gave birth to you, but He gave you life. God doesn’t create anyone average. He calls you “a masterpiece”. He put greatness in you. He says, “When I made you, I breathed My life into you. I created you in My own image. I put My DNA inside. You have royal blood flowing through your veins. I crowned you with My favor.” He calls you His most prized creation. There is potential inside that you’ve not tapped into yet.
Now the question is, what are you calling yourself? If you see yourself as ordinary, not that talented, and not having a great personality, that distorted image is going to keep you from shining. Don’t discount who you are. Don’t let people or disappointments convince you that you are weak, lacking, or inadequate. Tune all that out and get in agreement with God. Go back to who God says you are. You have to take off the negative labels and put on new ones such as “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made,” “Masterpiece,” “One of a Kind,” “Strong,” “Talented,” “Well Able,” and “Successful.”
There is greatness in you. There is talent, wisdom, and creativity in you. God has destined you to do something awesome. Will you believe that is true? The apostle Paul says, “The whole creation is on tiptoe, yearning for the time when the children of God will be revealed” (Romans 8:19). Paul is saying, in effect, “All of heaven is waiting for you to recognize who you are.” They’re standing on tiptoe, thinking, “Maybe today they’ll get it. Maybe they’ll realize they’re a masterpiece, the King’s son or daughter. Maybe today they’ll realize they’re royalty.” Do you want to give heaven something to cheer about? Make this a new day in your life. See yourself the way God sees you and step up to who you really are.
