44 Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead. So he called for the army officer in charge and asked him if Jesus was already dead. 45 When Pilate heard it from the officer, he told Joseph he could have the body.

MFM Daily Devotional 21st January 2023 Message:

Yesterday, we started to look at the life of Joseph of Arimathea. We established the fact that you can be rich and righteous at the same time. You don’t have to live beggarly like Lazarus to make heaven. Today, we want to glean yet more wisdom from this great disciple.

Boldness was a hallmark of this Bible hero. The Word of God records this: “Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.” There was a time in his life when he was fearful of the Jews and could not boldly identify with Jesus publicly. John 19:38 confirms this “And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews…”. But a time came that he could not hide his Christian faith anymore. He made his allegiance to Jesus known to all because God has not given us the spirit of fear. This, he displayed when he refused to consent to the wicked deeds of the Sanhedrin and also when he boldly asked for Jesus’ body for burial.

We need to let the world know that we are Christians and we must be bold about it. The more you keep your Christian faith secret, the more sin and worldliness will bring its manipulative wiles to your doorstep.
Another lesson to learn is his bold attitude. He made his request known boldly and Pilate obliged him. He asked and he received.

Have you taken time to pray about that heart desire of yours or do you just sit still complaining about it? Come boldly today to the throne of grace because the Scriptures assure us saying, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:” (1 John 5:14).
Stop murmuring: pray to God about it; hold Him by His Word; open your mouth wide and ask for help. Remember that when we pray, God answers us.
