Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 13th November 2023 Outline:
Jesus did not promise believers a smooth-sailing journey. His message to us in John 6:33, ‘I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world”. Paul took this message to heart and hence his positive response to his house arrest (in chains for Christ – v.13). See also Acts 16:22-28. Notice the result of his positive response to his troubles (v.14, compare Acts 16: 29-34). Instead of complaining about our minor troubles, let us trust the Lord to make all things work together for our good (Romans 8:28).
Paul identified two contrasting motives people have for preaching the Gospel. Notice these in vs.15-18. Do we have similar situation today? List various other motives people have nowadays for preaching the Gospel. If you too are proclaiming the Gospel at all, what is your own motive? Note, in v.18, Paul’s interest and attitude in the face of such conflicting motives. Were you in his position, how would you respond?
Reflection: How are you helping to spread the gospel in your community, country and beyond?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Lord, please purify my motives and guide my actions as I seek to promote the Gospel.
