Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 14 November 2022

Does it surprise you that the Bible says that Felix, the Roman Governor, had “a rather accurate knowledge of the Way”? See v.24a for a possible source of that knowledge. Unfortunately, his knowledge did not influence his character. He seems to represent many African leaders not only outside of our churches and Christian ministries but also within some of them. Note the ways in which the pretence of his spirituality showed up – he showed some concern for the welfare of the prisoner (v. 23).

He brought his Jewish wife to join in the conversation but could not entertain the hard truths relating to character transformation (vs.24‐25). His frequent audience with Paul was not for his spiritual growth but a cover‐up of his desire for a bribe (v.26); he abandoned Paul in prison to satisfy the Jewish leaders (v. 27b) and possibly because Paul did not succumb to bribing his way out of prison. Note: Our character and lifestyle will always confirm or betray our testimony as followers of Jesus Christ.
