Today’s Topic: Be like Christ

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.

Scripture Union Daily Guide 15th November 2023 Outline: 

Today’s passage opens with Paul’s call for Christians to love one another and be in unity. From v.1, we notice that union with Christ and love for Him are prerequisites for Christian love and unity to be achieved. Are you united with Christ (see John 1:12, Romans 8:9)? Can you identify from v.1 some privileges (benefits) available to those in union with Christ? Mention from vs.3-5 at least four instructions we must obey to achieve unity and love with other believers in Christ. How do you measure up?

To achieve unity, we must adopt and practise Christ’s humility. Good Christian behaviour and conduct just doesn’t happen. They flow out of the godly values and attitudes within a person. Therefore, Paul urges believers to pursue the nature and process of Christ’s humility (vs.6-11).

These texts are among the most important Bible texts on the divine nature of Jesus Christ. Vs.6-8 show Christ’s example in His journey from incarnation to crucifixion leading to salvation. Here we see unequalled selflessness, discipline, humility, and obedience. We are summoned by Paul (v.5) to follow this example which was rewarded with unmatched exaltation and coronation (vs.9-11). On bended knees and with bowed heads, every tongue (both friends and foes) shall proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord.
