Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th November 2023 Outline: 

The athlete who fails to focus on the end of the race but keeps looking around or behind cannot win the race. Neither can a footballer who fails to continually focus on the goal post hardly score any goal. Paul’s credentials and achievements, first as a Pharisee (relying on his own abilities) and then as an Apostle to the Gentiles (relying on his Lord and Master, Jesus) are impressive and commendable (see 2 Corinthians 11:22-33). But notice how he deals with his so-called achievements (vs. 12-13a)? Read vs.13b-14 and note his aim in life. How we need to learn a lesson from his life principles. We must not allow past glory to block our view.

In what leadership role has God placed you? Can you, like Paul in v.17, say to your wards, “Follow me” without remorse of conscience? Our world needs people who will lead by example. How often have our political and church leaders failed in this area? And how have you fared? Read v.19 and note some of the actions that can prevent us from living exemplary Christian lives that others can follow.
