Scripture: 2 Chronicles 21:1‐20

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow? Is there any command for me to obey?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

OUTLINE FOR DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL 212NOVEMBER 2022

The focus here is on king Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat. Notice how the passage describes him (see vs.5‐6, 10‐11,13). Though he was king in Judah, his ways were compared with those of Ahab, king of Israel. (For a detailed study of king Ahab’s reign, see 1 Kings 20‐22). Notice the family relationship between him and Ahab and how this influenced Jehoram’s behaviour and reign. Whatever we do has consequences. The consequences of Jehoram’s rebellion against God were severe: ? vs.8‐11 – rebellion and revolt by Edom, a section of his kingdom, leading to secession as well as revolt by Libnah. ? vs.12‐15 – judgment from the Lord through prophet Elijah. Do you notice that this judgment, though based on Jehoram’s actions, affected his sons, wives and all he had? Rebellion against God is cancerous and infectious! How did God execute His judgment against the king (see vs.16‐19)? Heaven and earth shall pass away, but God’s word will forever be established (see Matthew 24:35). Read vs.19‐20 again and underline how his death, funeral and burial is described. What a sad ending of a king’s life!

Practice/Word Application
And so? Reflect on your life. Are there things you have done that could attract God’s punishment to you and your loved ones, either in the immediate or in the long term? Take time to amend your ways by repenting and seeking God’s forgiveness.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Lord, help me to live my life in the light of eternity and the type of legacy I may leave for my posterity.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Proverbs 26:2
“As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.”

Bible Reading: Romans 16; 2 Corinthians 1,2.
