Scripture Union Daily Guide 22nd November 2023 Outline:
What happens when a whole nation drifts away from God? It becomes more troubling when spiritual leaders who are meant to provide direction towards God also drift along with the national moral decadence. From 28:1- 35:10, the prophet Isaiah addresses rebellious nations. Ephraim and the whole nation of Israel was overtaken by drunkenness, leading to the use of the strong words by the Prophet (see v.1).
The state of drunkenness affected the nation and everyone within it, including priests and prophets (see v.7). Prophets no longer tell people what God wants them to hear but what they want to be told. Drunkenness, and similar indulgence, always leads to disaster. More than that, when the word of God is scarce, people tend to believe lies and falsehood. Prophet Isaiah’s words are both a warning and judgment on the nation.
Thank God for making provisions for how people may seek and find Him. Christ is the answer to any misguided or wrecked life. He is God’s sure foundation of hope for escaping the wrath to come.
