SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 25 JANUARY 2023 WEDNESDAY DEVOTIONAL

Read and Meditate on Today’s Daily Guide Devotional for 25th January 2023. May the Lord bless you as you study!

TODAY’S TOPIC: THE LORD KNOWS HOW TO RESCUE THE GODLY FROM TRIALS

Opening Prayer: Grant me grace dear Lord to apply what you will teach me today as I read this passage.

SCRIPTURE: EXODUS 8:16-32

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

OUTLINE FOR TODAY: “No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” That is what God says in Psalm 91:10. People have asked why Christians catch Covid-19 even when they claim this promise. (Have you noticed that it was the next verse which Satan tried to apply, out of context, to the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 4:6?)

In our readings so far, the children of Israel have suffered from the plagues exactly as the Egyptians did. They had no other river of their own when the water of the Nile turned to blood; and the frogs invaded their homes too. To this day, we who are children of God experience the same plagues that affect the communities where they live. The reason is that we are part of the broken world order, reaping the consequences of the Fall.
Now, take another look at vs.22-23 and see how God does something different with the plague of flies. The distressing swarms avoided the district of Goshen where the children of Israel lived. Thankfully, the Lord does make exceptions for His people today as well – not as a rule but at His own discretion.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Reflect on the words of 2 Peter 2:4-10 and praise the Lord for your security in Christ.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 118:14
“The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.”
