OUTLINE FOR DAILY GUIDE 28 MARCH 2023 DEVOTIONAL:

The Temple is an amazing architecture with massive stones and magnificent buildings to admire, built to last forever. But Jesus foretells its complete destruction. This happened in AD 70 when Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed.

The disciples were teachable and continually learning from Jesus. So privately, four of them asked about the timing and the events that will accompany these things (vs.3-4). Jesus responded by alerting them to things they should watch out for. First are false Messiahs whose purpose is to mislead and deceive. Sadly, they will deceive many (vs.5&6).

Notice other signs in vs.7-8 and the second “watch out” in v.9. However, these trials “will be your opportunity to tell them about me” (v.9). The persecution will be so hard that even family members will actively join in it (vs.12-13)! Is it any different today? But God will never abandon us. Read and take to heart the encouragement in v.11.
Living as a true Christian will be getting more and more difficult, “but he who stands firm to the end will be saved”.

They are not saved by their perseverance through life’s joys, hard persecutions, and betrayals by even family members. But their consistent, continuous Christ-like lifestyle, despite the pressures, is proof that true salvation has been received and can never be interrupted for the believer (see Romans 8:35-39).
