OUTLINE FOR DAILY GUIDE 29 MARCH 2023 DEVOTIONAL:
The “abomination that causes desolation’’ could refer to either an object or a person that defiles the sanctuary. The phrase standing where it does not belong makes it appear that the desolating sacrilege refers to a person. Some interpreters think that the original reference was to the statue of himself that Emperor Caligula ordered set up in the Temple. But he died before the time set. Others referred to the desecration of the Temple by Antiochus IV.
There is a third “watch out” in today’s passage so we are not misled and deceived by “false messiahs” (vs.21-23). It is not only Christ’s people who perform miracles! In the gospel narratives, Jesus predicts three future events: the destruction of Jerusalem and Temple (v.2), His death and resurrection (Mark 8:31 & 10:33-34) and His own second coming (vs.24-27). There will be key signs to mark His return (vs.24-25). What follows these key signs? Read v.26 again. When Christ comes again, He will gather His elect or chosen ones – that is, all true Christian believers from all over the world (v.27)! Will you be among them?

THANK GOD FOR:
► The timely warnings in the Bible about being sober, alert and watchful.
► The peace and safety we enjoy as we remain steadfast and faithful in Him.
PRAY FOR:
► Grace to keep on, keeping on, not lowering our spiritual standards no matter what the world may say or do.
► Spiritual discipline to remain watchful, prayerful and to totally depend on God and His instructions when trials come.
► Deliberate decision to take heed to ensure our lights are burning and not being put off by the plans of the devil.
PRAY AGAINST:
► All forms of unfaithfulness, tiredness and discouragements as we await the coming of our Lord Jesus.
► Unduly seeking things of the earth to the end that we let them distract and distrack us from the race.
