TODAY’S TOPIC: JESUS AND THE AUTHORITY OVER INCURABLE DISEASES!

Opening Prayer: As I read your word O Lord, grant me an insight and grace to do your will in Jesus name.

Scripture: Mark 5:21-34

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 6: Is there any prayer for me to remember?

OUTLINE FOR TODAY: We observe two kinds of prayers from today’s passage. Read the prayer, the posture, and the presentation of the leader of the Synagogue, Jairus, in vs.22,23. Compare with the silent, contemplative prayer of the woman with issue of blood (vs.27-29). Both came with believing hearts in the power of Jesus to heal seemingly incurable diseases. However, observe v.33.

According to Jewish law, the woman in her condition is ceremonially unclean. Everyone she touches or who touches her becomes unclean until they go through a cleansing ritual (see Leviticus 15:19-27). She should stay away from other people so she does not contaminate them. That will account for the way she approached Jesus in v.27 but notice her reason for her desperate action and the result (vs.28-29). What does Jesus’ reaction in v.30 reveal about him?

Jesus sees us and knows what we are passing through. He also cares about everyone, high or low. Jairus was, unlike this woman, a VIP but Jesus put his journey to Jairus’ house on hold to take care of the woman.

Practice/Word Application
And so? Why do you think Jesus demanded that this woman should make herself known (vs.30-32)? Share the testimony of God’s intervention in your life with a peer or neighbour today.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Thank you, Lord Jesus, because you care for all whatever their position in life.
