SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 8 JANUARY 2023 SUNDAY DEVOTIONAL

Read and Meditate on Today’s Daily Guide Devotional for 8th January 2023. May the Lord bless you as you study!

TODAY’S TOPIC: BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT

Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: MARK 3: 20-35

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
• Q 8: Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?

OUTLINE FOR TODAY: Have you ever been advised to do everything “in moderation”? “This religion matter is all right, but there is no need to carry things to extremes!” Jesus Christ did not do it in moderation; and His family became really worried that He was beginning to lose His mental balance (vs.20-21). The learned religious authorities went one step further. They attributed the work of the Holy Spirit through Him to the Beelzebub, prince of demons!

Jesus Christ made it clear that they were straying into the territory of blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, the unforgivable sin (vs.28-29).

Does it still apply today? How can we know when someone had committed the sin beyond forgiveness? How can I be sure I have not done so myself? We should “use Scripture to interpret Scripture” by holding on to the things which are clear when faced with what is not clear to us. It is clear that the blood of Jesus Christ covers any sin and every sin when we repent and confess in His name (1 John 1:7-9).

It is also clear that there is no repentance in the grave (Hebrews 9:27). This shows that it is only people who reject the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives until they die who are beyond forgiveness.
