Scripture Union Daily Guide 9th November 2023 Outline:
Notice the flow of chapters 24, 25 and 26 culminating into 27. Do you receive some illumination of what is happening? The “day” (v.1), that is referred to here is the period of the triumphant rule of Christ’s kingdom on earth before total elimination of evil. Satan is also known as dragon and serpent (v.2; see Revelation 20:2). The devil and his followers will then be destroyed forever after the emergence of Antichrist (Revelation 20:7-10).
God promises us complete rest, where we are freed from anxieties of this world if we have put all our trust in Him (Matthew 11:28-30). In vs.2-6, God has created an environment of prosperity and favour, peace, joy and rest for His people. Although this is a time in the future, Jesus promises that with those who have handed control of their lives to Him, that day has begun.
Even while God was declaring His anger against His people, the merciful Father already foresaw the future when they would be restored (vs.12-13). So compassionate is our God but we must not take Him for granted. Are you undergoing any discipline from God’s hand now? Take a moment to examine your life and where necessary, re-trace your steps back to Jesus (Psalm 139:23-24; 2 Corinthians 13:5).
