Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd June 2023 Outline:

Although Christ has accomplished the work of redemption of all mankind by His death and resurrection, and all that is required for salvation is simply for people to call on the Lord (v.13), majority of the world’s population are still in captivity of sin. What is responsible for this (vs.14-15)?

Paul was emphatic that no one can be saved without hearing and believing the gospel of Christ (vs.14,17). However, the responsibility of preaching the gospel rests on those of us who have accepted Christ as Saviour. God could have used angels to take the gospel to unbelievers directly, but He chose to use us. Preaching the gospel is an obligation we must fulfil.

Christ has commissioned us, like the Old Testament prophets who proclaimed the good news of the release from Babylonian captivity, to proclaim release from the captivity of sin to the world (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5: 18). That was why Paul used the phrase “beautiful feet” for those who preach the gospel (v.15). However, not everyone will accept our message (v.16). This should not discourage us. Let us do our part and leave the result to God.

Take note of how faith is generated in us (v.17). What encouragement do we derive from vs.20-21?
