Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th May 2023 Outline: 

Notice the distinguishing characteristics of a true Christian, that which sets him apart from all unbelievers (v.9) and the great consequences of the Spirit dwelling in us (vs.10-11). The Holy Spirit indwells us, gives us power to put to death works of the flesh in our lives (v.13). He testifies in our spirit that we are children of God (v.16) and empowers us for service to God in this life (Acts 1:8). This He does by bestowing on us several service gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 4:11-13).

Paul stresses the fact that if you do not have the Holy Spirit in your life, then you are not a child of God. What other important work will the Holy Spirit do at the end of our earthly lives (v.11)? What does Paul mean by we “have received the Spirit of sonship” or “adoption” (v.15)? During Roman times people with no children or sons could adopt a child who becomes their child and inherit their wealth. So, through Jesus Christ, God adopts all those who accept Him as their Lord and Saviour and they become His children.

The Holy Spirit lives in them to direct their lives and protect them from the deceptions of the devil and so guarantees their place in eternal life.

Dear God, help me to live by the Spirit not according to the desires of my flesh.

Prayer for the week
► Pray for Christian fellowships, their programmes and Bible study plan that it will continue to enrich the lives of the brethren.
► Pray for brethren to continue in their personal relationship with God as they study His word and continue in Prayer.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Joshua 21:44

PRAYER FOCUS
NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY:
NOT WITHOUT OUR CHILDREN, PILGRIMS, CHILDREN, MISSIONS AND SCHOOLS AND TOT STEP DOWN CONTINUES.
I will contend with him who contends with you; and I will save your Children. – Isaiah 49:25

THANK GOD FOR:
► The promise to teach our children and to give them peace as we continue to trust Him for their salvation.
► The blessings of having children all over in our homes, streets, church and fellowship we can reach out to.

PRAY FOR:
► Parents to continue in prayer and supplications for our children as we remind our God that we and our children must be saved.
► Increase parental commitment and prayer for our children who have strayed to come back home.
► Grace to keep training and teaching them the principles of God’s word so that they can live out God’s commands.
► Deliberate application of Godly wisdom, love and friendship so they can have something to come back to in the future.
► The train the trainers workshop for Pilgrims, Children, Missions and Schools as they continue their training.

PRAY AGAINST:
► Increased sicknesses, tragedies and falling away from the faith by our children.
► Worry, fear and distractions that make us not deliberately sow the seed of life in our children early.
