TODAY’S TOPIC: AVOID SIN; ESCAPE AFFLICTION!
SCRIPTURE: Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. Psalm 119:67.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you dwell in a lifestyle of sin, you invite the bondage of affliction into your life.
It has been established that a lifestyle of sin and disobedience to God invites afflictions. Sin establishes a person in a situation of affliction. When people go astray, they get afflicted (Psalm 119:67). When you dwell in a lifestyle of sin, you invite the bondage of affliction into your life.
Pay attention to this story:
Many years ago, a man was brought to me for prayers. In fact, they travelled with him for almost five (5) hours to get to where I was. This man was dying of a terminal ailment. The vehicle that brought him stopped on the road for about 5 times for them to pour water on his body so he could be revived because he lost his breath several times.
When they brought him to me, he was like a skeleton covered with skin. He was lying on the floor in the Church. When I saw him, I packed him in my hands like a baby and prayed for him with all the passion I possessed. I cried to God and said, “Oh Lord, let this man live.”
After the prayer, the man was healed and started walking. Two weeks later, he drove himself to my house and I was amazed. I could not believe that it was the same person who was in a very terrible condition just two weeks earlier. Then he resumed his normal life activities.
However, after some months, he fell sick again and died. I was bothered and asked, “O God, if you were not interested in keeping him alive, why did you heal him in the first place?”
Then six months later, God answered my question when someone close to this man spoke to me and said, “Pastor, do not be worried about the death of that man because he went to heaven. He told me that you prayed for him at six different times and he was healed. But he went back to sin again, and at the point of death, when his soul was right with God, he told God ‘O Lord, now that I am sure that my soul is right with you, take me home so I do not get healed and go back to sin again, and die and go to hell.’”
The point here is, sin invites afflictions. Beloved, make up your mind not to dwell in a lifestyle of sin and disobedience to God.
REMEMBER THIS: When you dwell in a lifestyle of sin, you invite the bondage of affliction into your life.
ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Avoid the lifestyle of sin to escape afflictions in life.
2. Ask God for the grace to live right always.
PRAYER: Lord, I ask for the grace to live right always. Help me not to live in sin, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
