TODAY’S TOPIC: FILLED UP

Rincy Mathew

TODAY’S READING
John 4:7-14

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When I feel a void in my life, I will seek God’s abundant love to fill it.

Jesus said, “Whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.” – John 4:14 (CEB)

Before I knew God, I thought I could fill the void within me through my achievements. I was sure that getting good grades in school, having wonderful friends, traveling, having a boyfriend, or getting a job would finally solve everything. It was painful as each of these hopes failed to fill the emptiness I felt.

Eventually I realized that it was irrational and cruel to expect humans to fulfill something that only God can. Accepting our limitations is liberating and allows God’s love to fill those spaces. Where our capabilities end, God’s love stretches out to carry us.

Thankfully, God’s love has filled the void that I felt. Now my joy and fulfillment are with me in the present rather than in the future, and I don’t depend solely on my achievements, circumstances, or loved ones. I can no longer imagine my life without God in it. And as I have grown in my faith, I have come to recognize God’s presence throughout my life. God has always been faithful, even when I was not. Christ offers the water that will quench our thirst. And when we go to God with humble hearts, God will welcome us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Faithful God, remind us that your love can fill the empty spaces in our lives. Amen.

PRAYER FOCUS
Someone who puts their value in achievements
