THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.” – John 14:16 (NIV)
My grandfather had always been a source of inspiration to me. Though he was not very literate, he was a godly man. At a young age, he was invited to speak to a congregation. The invitation was a great honor, but it also brought him anxiety. The idea of addressing a large group of scholarly people made him nervous. As the day approached, he prayed, asking God to give him the courage to deliver the speech. When the day came, he stood up to speak. When he received a round of applause, he realized that he had delivered a good message. Later he told me that he felt like the Holy Spirit was speaking through him and that the words came out of him like a flowing stream.
Before his ascension, Jesus promised to send an advocate. The disciples were at times hopeless and helpless, but the Holy Spirit showed up and changed everything. Those who gathered at Pentecost that day in the upper room were renewed with great courage and began speaking in a variety of languages. The Holy Spirit helped the disciples in their distress, and the same Holy Spirit is within us. In moments of doubt, weakness, or fear, we can ask God for help. When we have no words to pray, we can simply ask God to send the Holy Spirit to deliver and comfort us.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, fill us with your Holy Spirit so that we may receive your divine help in every adversity. Amen.
