Topic: Removing the Dust

TODAY’S READING
John 15:1-8

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When I clear my mind of negative thoughts, God’s power flows more freely in me.

Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” – John 15:4 (KJV)

For many days, my computer kept losing power. No matter how many times I plugged it into the electrical outlet, the computer would start up then abruptly stop. Someone came and checked the battery, but it was fine. I removed the plug again and noticed it was coated in particles of dust. When I removed the dust and plugged it in again, the computer quickly lit up and ran normally.

This experience reminded me of our connection to Christ, the true vine. Sometimes we allow unneeded, even dangerous elements such as fear, worry, unkind thoughts, envy, hatred, or greed to build up in our minds and hearts. These get in the way of our connection to Christ. When we surrender all these matters to God through prayer and repentance, God will remove them and free us to live in his power.

TODAY’S PRAYER
God our Father, help us to keep our minds fixed on you so that everything that blocks our connection to you may be removed. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
