Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 January 2024 Outline: 

With Nicodemus, it was straight to the point: a theological statement. With the Samaritan woman, it was water. The people today wanted to make Jesus their king to ensure a constant supply of bread and fish. With them, therefore, He used a different metaphor to proclaim the same message of salvation by faith (vs.29, 40).

We too must start from where the people are as we proclaim the message of the kingdom. However, our message should not just feed people, but should also challenge their wrong motives. What are some of the wrong motives for which people seek Christ today? See vs.30, 34.

Death came to all who ate Moses’ manna. Many died right there in the desert, some while eating the food and all the others thereafter. Jesus’ bread, His body broken for us on the cross of Calvary, however, gives eternal life. We will have this bread of life when we put our faith in Him. Notice the intention of God for all mankind in v.40. Have you looked to the Son and believed in Him?
