DAILY GUIDE FOR WEDNESDAY 13TH APRIL 2023 OUTLINE:
Sometimes we feel that we do not deserve the suffering we are passing through because we cannot explain the reason for it. The Psalmist felt the same. He wondered why Israel suffered defeat in the hands of her enemies despite being loyal to the covenant (vs.17-19).
Note that his complaint was neither an expression of lack of hope in God nor an arrogant claim of faithfulness; rather it was an appeal of innocence before the God who knows the secrets of all hearts (vs.20-21). What can we learn from v.22?
Although it is not a popular gospel, the truth is that being faithful and obedient to God’s word does not immune us against suffering. In fact, many Christians are being persecuted for their faithfulness (2 Timothy 3:12; 1 Peter 2:21). Thus, suffering may be a mark of our faithfulness to Christ (Romans 8:36-39).
Read vs.23-26 again. Note that v.23 is not a suggestion that God sleeps like men do; rather, it is a metaphor used by the Psalmist to express his emotions and heart cry to God. We also may need to cry with heartfelt earnestness for God’s intervention when in distress and God seems far away.
So: When God seems to be distant, do not relent in your prayers. He is not far from you. Wait for His time.

Dear Lord, help me to remain faithful to you even when I cannot explain the reason for my suffering.
