TODAY’S TOPIC: INTERCEDE FOR LEADERS OF THE LAND

SCRIPTURE: 1 TIMOTHY 2: 1-7

2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

THE WORD: To intercede is to mediate or plead on behalf of someone. Our text admonishes us to intercede for our leaders. Today, people are quick to condemn leaders, especially political and traditional leaders. We can pray for them for wisdom, for good health, for strength, for courage to do what is right, and for a heart of compassion for the masses.

When we pray for our leaders, it does not mean that we will not speak truth to them when they err. Have you prayed for your leaders today? Cultivate a habit of praying for them. This will make them do what is right and it is a sure path to peace in the land. Remember, in praying for our leaders, we are also doing ourselves a favour because they make and implement policies that affect us directly.

REFLECTION
Do not condemn and discredit the efforts of your leaders.

PRAYER
God, help our leaders to do justice. Amen.
