SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 16 DECEMBER 2023 DEVOTIONAL

Read and Meditate on Today’s Daily Guide Devotional for 16th December 2023. May the Lord bless you as you study!

Today’s Topic: Repentance at the bottom of the Sea

Opening Prayer: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.

SCRIPTURE: Jonah 2:1-10

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 16th December 2023 Outline:

After an unsuccessful attempt to keep God at a distance by running away from God’s purpose and assignment, Jonah suddenly discovered he is now in the belly of a fish, right at the bottom of the Sea. From there, he repented and called on God and was ready to do what God wanted him to do (vs.7-9).

Read vs.2-6 and highlight the dangers of hitting rock bottom or being in distress before one is ready to repent and obey God. Note that God fills the heaven and earth. We can never escape from His presence (cf. Psalm 139:7, Jeremiah 23:23-24). We should rather acknowledge His presence always and be ready to obey Him.
From v.10 what nature of God was manifested here? Read Lamentation 3:22-23. Our God is a merciful God, full of love and He does not fail.

Practice/Word Application
Thought: Think of a big whale that suddenly appeared on the seashore of Nineveh. And the crowd gathered to watch and suddenly, the whale vomited a man – Evangelist Jonah who -was now ready to deliver a message to God`s prepared audience.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Ask God to enable you to obey Him always without waiting for the risky ‘belly of the whale’ experience.
